A multi-day festival kicks off August 29th at Olympic Plaza with the opening of an Artisan Village and an exciting stage show featuring both emerging and established artists in music, dance, visual arts and theatre from Calgary, around Alberta and across Canada.  Then throughout the week, the cultural party, with buskers, roving performers and local Artisans, will continue in the downtown core and at Stampede Park - home of WorldSkills Calgary 2009 - culminating with a final stage show at Olympic Plaza on September 5th.
As only the second Canadian host of this event in its 59-year history, WorldSkills Calgary 2009 is proudly hosting The 40th WorldSkills Competition from September 1 - 7, 2009. Over 900 international Competitors will compete simultaneously in 45 skill categories during four days of intense Competition on Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Hailed as the pinnacle of global skills, trades, and technology competition, this biennial event promotes excellence and international competency industry standards.
Admission to the four days of Competition is free.
WorldSkills Calgary 2009 is the largest independent event ever hosted at Stampede Park. Action-packed Competition days, which run September 2 through 5, and are flanked by the Opening Ceremony (Sept. 1), the Closing Ceremony (Sept. 6), and a celebration of WorldSkills Champions during the CFL Labour Day Classic football game held at McMahon Stadium on Sept. 7, 2009.
