Event Description:

Things are going to get noisy as Mayor Dave Bronconnier gives a Shout-Out to the Arts, Artists and Partnerships between business and the arts at the annual Mayor’s Evening presented by Enbridge. A featured event of Culture Month in Calgary and capping off the excitement of Alberta Arts Days, the reception, show and awards presentation takes place September 21, 2009 at the Max Bell Theatre in the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts from 5 – 9 pm.

This is the arts community’s highest profile, signature event. It is the one time of year to show our appreciation for, and shine a spotlight on, businesses and artists that are key to the arts community.

Surprise, stimulation and spontaneity define the event celebrating the interconnectivity and interdependence of business and the arts in Calgary. Participation of visual, literary, media, and performing artists bring the evening to life as the business and arts communities celebrate together and honour one another with five awards:

  • TELUS Arts Award for Artistic Innovation
  • Patron Award for Innovative Support
  • Arts Award for Established Artist
  • Patron Award for Sustained Support
  • Enbridge Arts Award for Emerging Artist

Bruce Sellery, host of Workopolis TV on CTV’s BNN, will Emcee the evening’s program – though one never knows what kind of raucous behaviour might erupt when members of the business and arts sectors come together this one time each year. Only 750 tickets are available for the event, which is also a fundraiser for the Calgary Professional Arts Alliance.

The healthcare crisis in this

The healthcare crisis in this country has grown remarkably throughout the past years. It has reached more people, causing many to lose everything from their health insurance to their homes. The costs of medical care have risen to astronomical levels, hurting both patients and doctors. This crisis demands the involvement and dedication of our young generation. I support the Student Advocates for Hopeful Politics for Healthcare Reform Bill because it addresses the many issues that contribute to this crisis. It offers a solution to the multiple problems that hinder our current system and have created this crisis. The healthcare crisis in this country has grown remarkably throughout the past years.
