Patrick Lor: Patrick helped pioneer the microstock industry, joining the world’s first microstock agency in 2001 as co-founder. Upon his departure, the company was selling over 12 million images annually, and was sold to Getty Images for US$50 million in 2006. He has also held senior marketing and product development roles at Adobe’s Image Club Graphics Division, which produced and marketed fonts, photography, clip art and design applications to professional designers throughout the world. Patrick is now President of fotolia.com North America, Calgary’s next generation of stock photography.
At TEDxUofC Patrick will be discussing how creative industries are sparked and sustained as seen through the development of the strongest stock photography community worldwide located at home in Calgary.
Terry Rock: Dr. Terry Rock has held numerous strategic leadership roles over the past 14 years. His experience covers a broad spectrum of sectors, ranging from software to the arts. Dr. Rock has worked with top managers and boards of organizations ranging from one-person start-ups through to one of the world’s largest multinationals. Formerly an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Calgary, Dr. Rock’s research focused on the processes by which organizations develop competitive advantage and continue to create value in turbulent times. At the City of Calgary, Dr. Rock worked on a range of issues related to government/non-profit partnerships. In his 20-month tenure, he led two initiatives: the development of a comprehensive partnership accountability framework and the development of a new civic arts policy.

Ellen Pearlman: Ellen Pearlman is currently a Ph.D student at the University of Calgary, Canada in Computational Media and Design. She is Artistic Director of Yuanfen Gallery, the very first gallery of new media in Beijing, China, and was on the Art Panel Review Board for SIGGRAPH ASIA in Yokohama, Japan. She has significant experience in the emerging new media field and has received considerable recognition for her work worldwide.
At TEDxUofC Ellen will be discussing new media and how technology can influence the creative industries as seen through her PhD work on telematic arts and music.
