Event Description:

 L. Japheth Howard, Artist Blacksmith
Hammering Man
Shaping and Being Shaped by Iron
In this illustrated presentation Japheth Howard will talk about the role of the metal smith through history. He will look specifically at how his fascination with the process of making things with metal has shaped his life.
L. Japheth Howard began his career as a blacksmith at 15 when his interest in history and archaeology led him to forge replicas of antique iron tools. He has worked with blacksmiths across the US and the UK, and interned with the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.
Now a resident of Cochrane, he designs and makes architectural metalwork, teaches blacksmithing and is a curator with the Museum of Making in Cochrane.
Hammering Man complements The Nickle Arts Museum’s exhibitions Weighed in the Balance (through May 21, 2010).
