Tickets are on sale now for the sticky, steamy barbecue heat of southern soul brought to life by Calgary’s vibrant and diverse 50-voice performance group, REVV52 in its upcoming 60th season as this city’s longest-running voice ensemble.
GREAT BALLS OF FIRE: Memphis celebrates the musical Mecca where the Blues, Soul, Rock, Rockabilly and Gospel find their roots. REVV52 will perform the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, along with Al Green, Wilson Pickett, Booker T and the MGs, Isaac Hayes and the Staple Singers, among others.
Led by artistic director Brian Farrell and produced by local film and television producer Murray Ord, the shows will be a smokin’ hot revival of Memphis music in the 50s where Beale Street, Sun Studios, Stax Records, and the civil rights movement came to life along with stories and sounds that changed music throughout North America and around the world.
Revv52 band leader Trevor Waters will be accompanying the group on piano with local Calgary musicians Steve Pineo on guitar, Kit Johnson on bass, and Nicholai Drost on drums. In the style of the Memphis horns, this season will also feature Rich Harding on sax and Alistair Elliott on trumpet.
