L’Association Canadienne-Française de l’Alberta (ACFA) regional of Calgary is proud to announce the launch of the 8th edition of the Maple Festival des Sucres de Calgary. Friday, March 19th at 7:00 pm, the group “LE FUZZ” will kick off the festival. Le Fuzz is a multilingual, world-beat musical group from Edmonton, Alberta. They perform a variety of globally inspired music sung in many languages. Le Fuzz invites you on a dynamic music journey destined to make you laugh and dance.
March 20th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm will be the Festival’s Family Day. “Tournedo”, the new Festival mascot will also be present and will not pass unnoticed. Come and enjoy a traditional buffet as well as the traditional Maple Taffy on the snow. In the afternoon, children of all ages will enjoy the adventures of Arthur L’aventurier from Quebec. With his new friend Lingot, the pirate, Arthur goes in search of a mysterious treasure. Using clues, children will depart on an excursion with the northern gannets, and meet the whales and Tutu the wood turtle and many more amazing adventures with nature!
The Sugar Market will provide multi-art interactive booths animated by artists and craftsmen. Francophone organizations and businesses of the greater Calgary will also be there to promote their products and services. The festival sport theme will allow the visitors to talk with athletes and obtain their autographs.
Come and meet the National and Olympic Athletes that will be joining us at the festival! This family event cannot happen without the Kid’s Village, under the supervision and animation of SPEFSA (Société de la petite enfance et de la famille du sud de l’Alberta), the Francophone’s Scouts and the Sea Cadets of Calgary, where kids can get their faces painted, enjoy watching magician and puppet shows as well as participate in an African workshop manufacturing bracelets and necklaces. Outdoor activities such as inflatable games, inflatable sumo costumes and a street hockey tournament will be hosted by the Francophone Sports Federation of Alberta and l’Amicale Congo-Brazza Alberta.Saturday evening at 7:00 pm, it is with great pleasure that we will welcome Boom Desjardins, who will be performing at the big Festival Tent at Canada Olympic Park. With over eight hundred thousand albums sold in his career, Boom is one Quebec’s most accomplished artists! The first part of the concert will be presented by Dr. Zoo, local group of Afro-Celtic Rock who offers a fusion of African and Celtic groovy rhythm.
