Artist: Cécile Belmont with TRUCK Contemporary Art
Belmont produces location-specific performance art using simple techniques to assert particular messages about her subject-matter. For this event, Belmont will carry through several Letter Performances together with Calgarians, exploring the multifaceted relationship between the city, its people and the Bow River.
From June through September, six Public Art events in Calgary will give citizens and visitors the opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon the precious Bow River. Each event will feature a different artist and provide an artistic opportunity to experience the Bow River and think about its importance as a life-sustaining resource.
For information on all six events, visit www.calgary.ca/bow
During her CAMPER (TRUCK’s Contemporary Art Public Exhibition Rig) residency, Cécile Belmont will conduct Letter Performance. A group of local residents, each wearing a single letter affixed to their shirt, will come together to build a sentence, addressing Calgary's multifaceted relationship with the Bow River. This work seeks to draw a portrait of the Bow River area through its users, exposing the specificities, memory, and the relationship of the inhabitants with their river.
Cécile Belmont is a French visual artist based in Berlin. She studied textile design in Paris, France and painting in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
