This September, the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta College of Art + Design is pleased to offer a new season of programming opening September 16, 2010, with four solo exhibitions by Rob Froese, Adam Pendleton, Sheila Spence and Elaine Stocki. Together, these artists demonstrate a variety of art making practices – exploring performance, photography, and clay work.
This new exhibition at the IKG represents perspectives on forms of social and individual portraiture in various media, from photography to clay. As curator Wayne Baerwaldt explains, “Each artist suggests that a range of information, from the representation of facial gestures to the collage of found and new audio and the subtle textures created in ceramics can be categorized as portraiture that may be both familiar and beguiling. Viewers may find themselves mentally assembling new meanings from the diverse works that establish and blur the links to creative sources that are simultaneously historical and contemporary.”
Join the IKG for the opening reception of this exciting fall program on September 16, 2010 at 6:00 pm, with informal artist talks in the gallery at 6:30 and 7:00 pm.
