Engraving Culture presents: Jill Ho-You
Saturday, January 14th at 2:00pm
The Alberta College of Art and Design, room 520

Edmonton artist Jill Ho-You will give a free public artist talk about her current practice and upcoming exhibition in the Artist Proof Gallery, "Between Vessels". The exhibition Between Vessels addresses the notion of memory and its corporeal manifestations. The work questions the intimate relationship between our physical and psychological selves, and investigates how memory is embodied in our material being.

By contrasting the analytic, scientific views of the body with the reality of the convoluted, experienced body, Between Vessels speculates on the ways in which personal memory, emotion and cognition are expressed through our physical selves. The prints envision the body – the organs, tissues and cells – as sites where our memories and experiences are encoded without conscious recollection.

Jill Ho-You holds degrees in Psychology and Art from the University of Calgary and is currently a MFA candidate at the University of Alberta in Printmaking. Through the media of printmaking, installation and drawing, Ho-You’s work explores the physical manifestation of memory, building on detailed anatomical studies of the human body. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at Southern Graphics Council International in St. Louis, MO (2011 Award Winner), a solo exhibition at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA (2011), and at the International Print Trienniale in Krakow/Poznan, Poland (2009).
