Calgary's completely live, completely improvised comedy soap opera, DIRTY LAUNDRY, returns to the stage on Monday, September 20.
Season 11: The Grapes of Wrathburn invites audiences to journey to the lush and breathtaking vineyards of British Columbia’s wine country. When the Wrathburn family finds the success of their winery under threat, this rich and powerful dynasty of elites will crush more than mere grapes beneath their feet. The love, the hate, and the bitter aftertaste all make up the flavour of DIRTY LAUNDRY’S 11th season.
Since 1999, DIRTY LAUNDRY has kept Calgary audiences in stitches with its unique brand of improvised comedy and weekly cliffhangers. Last season the troupe presented The Amazing Rinse in which reality television contestants were required to race across 10 provinces in pursuit of a $10 million dollar grand prize.
With their first decade of long-form improvisation under their belt, the ensemble of DIRTY LAUNDRY has had plenty of opportunities to experiment with the form. Asked where this season fits in the spectrum of ventures over the years, co-producer and improviser, Karen Johnson-Diamond, expresses a delight in the purity of this year’s storyline:
"We are going back to the essence of soap opera —over the top, melodramatic and ridiculously serious. Full of passion and desperation. This is where it all began. I grew up watching The Young and the Restless… I’ve done YEARS OF RESEARCH for this season!"
On Monday, September 20, DIRTY LAUNDRY will hold its annual “Money Laundering” Event—a fundraiser that provides fiscal support over the course of the season. The “Money Laundering” Event begins with the opening episode of Season 11: The Grapes of Wrathburn followed by a celebratory shindig at the Auburn Saloon. In addition to admission to the first episode of the season, tickets to this fundraiser include complimentary admission to another episode during the regular season, plus one free drink at the Auburn Saloon and a host of door prizes.
DIRTY LAUNDRY boasts live music and a host of professional actor/improvisers: Cam Ascroft (Keyboard), Aaron Coates (Co-Producer and Director), Chris Enright, Layne Fox, Cheryl Hutton, Karen Johnson-Diamond (Producer and Improvisor), Chantal Perron, Jonathan Purvis, Tammy Roberts, Trevor Rueger, and Nicole Zylstra—along with special recurring guests Trevor Leigh, Julie Orton and C. Adam Leigh. Stage Managers Ruby Dawn Eustaquio-Charney, Gillian Pinkney, Alec McCauley and, Kelsey ter Kuile improvise technical elements such as lighting.
It’s a brand new load of DIRTY LAUNDRY, Monday nights at Lunchbox Theatre. Because “Monday Night is Laundry Night!”
