Culture Month Event Highlights

This September, Calgary will experience its second annual Culture Month - an initiative to celebrate the arts in Calgary and encourage Calgarians and visitors to take advantage of the city's extensive offering of arts events.

Calgary Culture? Dream Big for 2012!
September 1 - 30
Calgary is bidding to be named the Cultural Capital of Canada in 2012, and we are looking for your ideas about how we should celebrate! What do you think makes this city great? We want to hear your thoughts on why you love living in Calgary, what you think the future of culture in our city should be, and how you want to celebrate culture in 2012.

Get Back to Style in September
September 1 - 30
Various downtown venues

Fall is all about change. It's time to get back to style. And Downtown is your best destination to experience changes in style in all its forms. Theatres start their new seasons. Restaurants change up their menus. Stores are bursting with new looks for fall. And Downtown is making fall even better with special promotions and events from merchants and restaurants. Plus there will be Random Acts of Style - impromptu fashion shows, mobile makeovers, walking billboards, and theatre on the street and more.

First Thursday - Calgary's Monthly Cultural Crawl

Every first Thursday of the month Calgary's Cultural District offers special programming, show openings and restaurant deals. Go to one event or many and hop your way through some of the Cultural District's most interesting venues.

BBQ on the Bow Festival

Summer’s last festival is ready to rock n roll and it’s sure to be the hottest if not the smokiest event in town as 25 BBQ Teams from across Canada and United States battle it out for the title of “ Grand Champion “ on the Labour Day weekend in Calgary.

Pride Calgary 2010

The annual Pride Calgary Pride Parade is an opportunity from people of all genders, sexual orientations, and walks of life to unite and march together.  Get in costume, dress up in your rainbow colours, or simply come as yourself to participate in this yearly event.

Artcity Festival 2010
September 10 - 19
Artcity Festival is Calgary's annual celebration of visual art, architecture, and design. For 10 days each year, new artworks, installations, and projects are temporarily inserted into the urban landscape for discovery and engagement by ordinary citizens and interested parties.

Cirque du Soleil presents KOOZA
September 16 - October 10
Under the Grand Chapiteau, Parking Lot #6, Stampede Park

KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil: It combines two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendor and fragility, presented in a colorful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humor.

Alberta Arts Days
September 17-19

Alberta Arts Days is a three-day celebration of Alberta's arts and culture. September 17-19, 2010, communities across Alberta will be humming with creative energy. From classrooms to concert halls, from libraries to choir lofts and sidewalks to studios, Albertans everywhere will bring the very spirit of Alberta to life.

Calgary International Film Festival
September 24 - October 3
More than 200 of the finest films in contemporary cinema await their debut in this, the 11th year of the Calgary International Film Festival, running September 24 to October 3, 2010. Prepare to witness how the “West Meets the World” as we highlight the best in local, national and global filmmaking at Calgary’s ‘other’ 10-day cultural event. 

Mayor's Evening for Business & the Arts

Calgary Organ Festival and Symposium
September 29 - October 4

The Calgary Organ Festival and Symposium will feature public performances by renowned organists Alan Morrison, David Briggs and Margaret Phillips, a keynote address by renowned author and theologian Dr. Marva Dawn and a package of mentoring opportunities and career development workshops for a select group of young organists.
