The Alberta Printmakers' Society is pleased to present a FREE, public artist talk at our studio and gallery on Saturday, March 13th at 1:30 pm. In conjunction with our current exhibition, Montreal artist Rene Donais will discuss his recent work, which is inspired by his experiences as a foreign student in Beijing during the 1989 Tiananmen square events. Shocked by the tragic events, Donais became fascinated with the Chinese leaders and dissidents involved in the conflict. Through his sometimes distorted and mutated portraits of these political leaders and activists, Donais creates a visual dialogue between the two sides of the conflict.
About Tiananmen is on display at the Artist Proof Gallery from March 3 to 27, 2010. An opening reception for this exhibition will be held on Friday, March 12th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and a public artist talk will follow on March 13th at 1:30pm.
