Artist: Derek Besant

Besant has created a series of photo-based water portraits of local Calgarians. Besant uses his imagery as a metaphor for humans' relationship with the life-sustaining Bow River. The larger-than-life water portraits  will appear on Calgary Transit vehicles and outdoor billboards throughout the city. Besant worked with project partners, The Pattison Outdoor Group and Calgary Transit to realize this project across the city.

From June through September, six Public Art events in Calgary will give citizens and visitors the opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon the precious Bow River. Event Description:

TRUCK Contemporary Art presents:

Battleship Down

SHOWCASING WORK BY

Randy Niessen (Calgary, AB)

Randy Niessen’s site specific installations are formal explorations created through a hybrid of painting, print media, and sculpture. These installations play with the tension between art and environment, materials and space, as well as reality and illusion. In the abstract of a sinking ship, Battleship Down is an explosive scene of geometric shapes and colour. Fire, water, and light are represented by paint and string erupting around an abstract dreadnought engulfed in its own environment.

Closing Reception: Thursday, September 16, 2010 @ 7:00 PM at the Window Space
The closing reception for Battleship will run from 7 to 8 PM at the window space.

Event Description:

EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts is proud to present Wildurban: A Multichannel Soundscape created by locally and internationally recognized sound artist Charles Fox.

The soundscape for Wildurban was composed from multichannel surround sound recordings made in wilderness locations in various parts of Saskatchewan. The recording locations reflect a diversity of ecological communities that include waterfowl, songbirds, insects and mammals, communities which are fast disappearing from the Canadian Prairies and Boreal forests.

Through this arrangement, Wildurban invites those who encounter the resulting soundscape to listen in on the wild world, to consider both the origins and potential of human interaction when exploring these natural forms of relationships and communication found in the wild urban soundscape.

Join us in supporting media arts in the Prairies.
